Legacy Studio of Performing Arts strives to provide the most professional and educated staff to teach proper technique and instill the love of dance.
Class Placements
Beginning students are placed in classes based on age. After the first year of instruction students should register keeping in mind the instructor’s final evaluation from the previous year. The first two weeks of classes will be used as assessment weeks. At that time, teachers may ask a student to move to a different class depending on the student’s ability, age, and class level. If you feel that the placement is not appropriate after the first 2 weeks, a second evaluation may be requested. All decisions are made with your child’s best interest in mind.

Rhythms (Ages 3-5)
In Rhythms classes, children explore a variety of dance forms including tap, jazz, and ballet. They will learn skipping, hopping, galloping, ballet positions, and beginning tap and jazz steps. These classes provide group participation and social interaction. Children will improve coordination, flexibility, listening, and body awareness. Acrobatics Acrobatics are floor gymnastics. In Acrobats students develop strength, coordination, balance, and agility. Instruction begins with simple forward rolls and cartwheels, and progresses through numerous levels that include walkovers, limbers, handsprings, and aerial tricks. Ballet Ballet is the foundation of all forms of dance. Classes are designed to teach proper technique which includes body alignment and positions. Dancers will gain flexibility and core strength as well as grace, poise, and discipline. Every class will include a ballet barre warm-up, center-work, and progressions across the floor. We recommend ballet to all our serious dancers-both boys and girls. Pointe Pointe is for advance students already enrolled in ballet. At the end of each dance season, Pointe classes will be offered to those who have reached appropriate age and skill level. Jazz Jazz dance incorporates rhythm and movements to many forms of music including rock, popular, rhythm and blues, and show tunes. With a strong focus on technique, dancers learn combinations and choreography that incorporates jumps, kicks, and turns into the differing jazz styles. A student taking jazz will develop stamina, strength, and flexibility. Hip-Hop (Ages 7 & up) Hip-Hop evolved out of street and break dancing. It is characterized by its expressive and athletic style. Classes stress technique while encouraging students to add their individual style and interpretation. Hip-hop is one of the most popular forms of dance among the young generation. Lyrical Lyrical dancing is a combination of classical ballet, modern, and jazz. A lyrical dancer portrays the emotions of the music and lyrics of the song. We strongly recommend that students have at least one year of ballet training before trying lyrical. Tap Tap focuses on creating sounds with the feet. Students learn basic tap technique through rhythm exercises, step combinations, and progressions across the floor. Tap class is great for improving a student’s rhythmic ability, coordination, and agility. Cheer Cheer classes teach the skills needed to become a cheerleader. Classes begin with a warm-up and stretch followed by motion drills and combinations. Students learn to incorporate jumps, kicks, and splits into their routines while increasing flexibility, strength and endurance. The main emphasis is on cheer techniques-motion drills, dance and cheer combinations, chants, jumps, kicks, and splits. Musical Theater In Musical Theater students work on developing their abilities to perform a musical number that includes acting and dance. The instructor focuses on each skill individually and then works to put them all together in a fun, creative, and expressive way. The activities in this class are geared toward improving and enhancing the student's self-image and self confidence. Jazz is the primary dance genre taught, with emphasis on correct ballet technique, but sometimes the instructor may choose for the class to perform tap, depending on the class. Technique Classes (Tap & TLC) Technique classes are offered in most of the major dance forms listed above. In these classes, students work only on building a stronger foundation and technical skills in the dance form being studied. Technique classes do not perform in the annual recital. Competition dancers are required to take technique classes in addition to the performance classes above. Technique classes are for advanced and intermediate students only. Private Instruction Many of our instructors offer private instruction. To receive private instruction a dancer must also be enrolled in regular classes at the studio. Competition Classes Students who are interested in competition classes should indicate this when registering for classes. Competition auditions will be held in the summer for those interested. In some cases, students may take competition classes with teacher recommendations. |
